Lamp
offering in Tibetan is called “Donme” which means removal
of dark ignorance and strengthen the light of the wisdom.
The cup of the lamp symbolizes emptiness while the oil symbolizes
the five paths and the light represents wisdom.
Again, the lamp offering
cup is a symbol of primordial pureness, while oil represents
the four types of light, that is “the paths that allow direct
perception of the enlightened body of the inseparable reality
and awareness at the actual stage of Dzogchen meditation
following the leap over system (Thor-Gal), and the light
symbolizes our natural wisdom.
Significance of Lamp Offering
Offering lamp is particular, is a special access of dependent-arising
to speedily complete the accumulation of merits and obtain
blessings.

The Borobudur Grand Lamp
Offering 2007
NSCF has organized the Grand
Lamp Offering at Borobudur on 20th February 2007, presided
by Sonam Rinpoche, with the participation of a lama and
few devotees from Malaysia and Indonesia. Borobudur means
“The Sacred Shrine of Thousand Buddhas”. It also carries
the meaning of “Buddhist Temple on Hill” in Sanskrit. As
the world’s largest Buddhist artifact and sacred site, Borobudur
is definitely the best choice of pilgrimage for more than
150 years ago and that was selected by our supreme teacher
Sonam Rinpoche as our first sacred site of holding the first
NSCF Grand Lamp Offering.

The Jokhang, Lhasa, Tibet Grand Lamp Offering 2008
As one of the NSCF annual holy event, in conjunction with the Tibetan New Year, Sonam Rinpoche held the 2nd Grand Lamp Offering at Jokhang, Lhasa, in TIbet on the 9th February 2008. Thousands of butter lamp were lighted up, symbolised the light of wisdom that dispelled the darkness of ignorance. This specific offering was made with the sincere motivation of cultivating pristine awareness and wisdom in the hearts of all beings, thereby eliminating from its very root the shadow of ignorance that is the source of all misery in the world.

The Azi Dugshul Village, Tibet Grand Lamp Offering 2009
For the year of 2009, the lamp offering will be organized at the Nga Gyur Shed Dup Childrens' Home (NSCH), Azi Dugshul Village , Tibet, in conjuction to the opening ceremony for the NSCH and most importantly for the Buddhadharma to be ever flourished, even during this degenerate age; the peace, happiness and harmony to prevail in this world; the warfare, famines and sicknesses to be eliminated.
